Tim Holmstrom has been producing and staging events in Costa Rica for 4 years. As a photojournalist Tim Holmstrom has been covering adventure racing and multi-sport events for over 10 years. He has witnessed the tremendous
growth and steady evolution of these races while gathering a vast library of images for magazines, corporate sponsors and race organizations.
For Tim, The Coastal Experience is a part of a natural progression and evolution of attempting to open up these types of events for more and more individuals to enjoy and participate.

Merritt Hopper has been an integral part in some of the most famous races in the world. He has pooled his logistical and operational experience from races like The Eco Challenge, Primal Quest and The Coastal Challenge to bring us this race. Merritt will make sure to bring his spirit and enthusiasm to what he promises will be "An event like no other."

An accomplished tropical biologist, Eduardo, has worked as a
naturalist/adventure guide in Costa Rica since 1999. He’s a member of Costa
Rica's Adventure Racing Team with who has won the National and Central
American Championships. Top Team finishes include: 1st place in Coast to
Coast AR - Costa Rica, 1st place in Trio AR - Nicaragua, 3rd place in CAMDEX
- Mexico, 4th place in Travesia Max Bosi - Colombia, and most recently 10th
place in Desafio de los Volcanoes 2007 - Argentina/Chile, referred to as the
toughest race in South America.
Eduardo has turned his knowledge, love and passion for Costa Rica into a
successful tourism business and will be putting all of his skills into
designing and executing The Coastal Experiences.
Dr. David Townes received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts and completed his internship and residency in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is board certified in emergency medicine. He did a fellowship in international emergency medicine and earned his master's degree in public health. He has worked in a variety of wilderness and international settings including Alaska, Antarctica, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Russia, the West Indies, and Yosemite National Park. He has been a physician volunteer for the National Ski Patrol, the search and rescue team at Yosemite National Park and the Indian Health Service and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Wilderness Medical Society. He has served as the Medical Director for the Heartland AIDS Ride (2001), the Subaru Primal Quest Expedition Length Adventure Race (2002, 2003, 2004), and the Coastal Challenge (2005, 2006). He is a frequent speaker and author in the areas of wilderness and expedition medicine. Dr. Townes is currently an Assistant Professor and the Associate Residency Program Director in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington.

Mónica is a Costa Rican nutritionist. She is finishing her master degree in Human Movement Sciences at the Physical Education School of the University of Costa Rica. Member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Costa Rican Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists (ACDYN).
She works as a private consultant and teaches sports nutrition courses at the University of Costa Rica, the National University and the University of San José. Mónica has experience working with swimming, triathlon, road cyclist and tennis groups. She is member of the Medical Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Costa Rica.
Mónica loves sports. She has been competing for more than twenty years in swimming events (swimming pools and open water), road cycling and triathlon. She has represented Costa Rica in swimming and triathlon national teams. In 2003, she participated in the Panamerican Games in Dominican Republic, as well as the World University Games in Daegu, South Korea.
